The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, has officially opened a five-day national prayer retreat to intercede for the upcoming World Assemblies of God Congress 2026.
The retreat, which began on Monday, 9th March and ends on Friday, 13th March 2026, is being held at the Shai Hills Retreat Centre. It is under the theme: **“Praying for a Historic Move of God at the 2026 World Congress.”** The Congress itself is scheduled to take place in Accra from 14th–16th October 2026, marking the first time the global gathering will be hosted in Africa.
The prayer retreat is hosted by the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Rev. Andrews N. Awintia, and has brought together about 200 pastors and intercessors from across all regions of Ghana.
Addressing participants, Rev. Wengam conveyed greetings from the Global Chairman, Dominic Yeo, and emphasized the vital role of prayer in preparing for the Congress. He reminded the gathering that prayer moves the hand of God to accomplish what human effort cannot achieve. Following his exhortation, he led participants in an intense two-hour intercessory prayer session for the Congress.
Rev. Awintia commended the participants for their dedication to prayer since their arrival. On average, attendees spend about 10 hours daily in prayer, supported by a continuous 24-hour prayer chain throughout the retreat.
